If a gantry milling machine cannot grasp the knife, it will stop the processing process, or the products produced cannot meet the set standards and cannot be produced normally. So why can a gantry milling machine not grasp the knife? First, let me introduce the structure and principle of the gantry milling machine, and then list the reasons that can cause the gantry milling machine to not grip the knife.
There are two types of tool changing methods for gantry milling machines: mechanical hand tool changing and direct tool changing. Many reasons can cause the tool magazine to not grasp the tool correctly or change the tool. The gantry milling machine is centered around the CNC control unit, cooperates with external units such as the tool magazine, communicates with the servo system, controls the operation of several axis servo motors, and achieves cutting motion of each axis. The machine tool consists of a bed, a sliding plate, a workbench, columns, an electrical cabinet, a tool magazine, an oil mist lubrication unit for each spindle, a chip conveyor, and other basic components.
The inability of the gantry milling machine to grasp the knife is mainly caused by the following reasons:
1. CNC system malfunction caused
After checking the self inspection table, it was found that the left motherboard, right motherboard, bridge board, servo board, I/O board, touch screen, and keyboard board all passed normally. But when opening the electrical cabinet for inspection, it was found that the CNC system bridge board indicator light was incorrect. Through the exchange and comparison test of two machine tools, the fault point was finally locked on the bridge board and restored after replacement.
During maintenance, strange phenomena have also been encountered, such as normal equipment startup, self inspection, loading system, secondary power on, calibration of mechanical zero point, and subsequent calibration of the tool magazine. The tool magazine cannot rotate or swing. Observing the I/O switch value, it was found that pressing the Fl key (PARK home position) and F2 key (SPDL spindle position) resulted in a switch value of 0 for PRIDRUM-PARK and PRIDRUM-SPDL, indicating that the signal was not given and the tool magazine would naturally not operate.
2. Caused by machine tool protection
Sometimes due to incorrect operation, the machine tool protection action may fail to grasp the tool correctly. At this time, simply press the emergency stop switch to power on again, or directly shut down and restart to restore.
3. Caused by the electromagnetic valve or magnetic induction switch of the tool magazine
The position and original position of the spindle of the tool magazine are determined by two magnetic switches on the cylinder of the tool magazine. When the solenoid valve and magnetic switch malfunction and alarm [39-12], the tool magazine does not swing to the spindle position within the specified time; At [39-15], the tool magazine did not return to its original position within the specified time. The vertical gantry milling machine adopts a direct tool change method, and the action of the tool magazine can be swing and rotate. Control the cylinder to drive the tool magazine to swing through a three position five way solenoid valve; The rotation of the magazine is achieved through a single-phase magazine motor. There is a progressive switch in the tool library for tool library counting. When changing tools, the tool magazine should first be placed in the spindle position, the original tool should be placed back in the tool sleeve, and then the tool magazine should be rotated to find the next tool before grasping. At this point, it is necessary to check whether the solenoid valve is operating. If the oscillating tool magazine cannot hear the sound of the solenoid valve's operation, it is necessary to manually check the valve's condition (at this time, disconnect the output end of the valve). If it is damaged, replace it.
4. Damage to the light hazard board
If the valve of the gantry milling machine is correct, it is necessary to check the status of the I/O switch value: the signal of the spindle position SLIDRUM _ SPDL000: 00/15 or the original position SLIDRUM _ PARK000: 00/16 is the corresponding 24V level signal on the faulty board, and whether the fuse on the board and the signal 110V voltage from the photoelectric board have been sent to the solenoid valve. By checking the voltage of each signal along the way, the fault point can be identified. Usually, there is a higher possibility of damage to the safety tube and light tube, so it is better to purchase the same glass safety tube or light tube and replace it.

6. Mechanical jamming
Sometimes the cutter head is mechanically stuck. In addition to mechanically cleaning the iron filings stuck in the cutter head, the operator is required to promptly remove the iron filings in the gantry milling machine tool library and maintain the cleanliness of the tool library and handle. If the handle of the knife is stuck, pressing the release button can hear the cylinder pressing down, but the knife cannot be removed. This is due to rusting of the tool handle due to lack of proper maintenance, or due to jamming caused by iron chips on the spindle cone hole or tool handle. At this point, simply press and hold the release key, and after confirming the clear pressure of the release blade cylinder, use a wooden mirror to act on the edge of the tool handle and gently knock the tool off. Another issue is that the pull rod is stuck, which requires dismantling the main shaft and knocking out the pull rod. At this point, there are usually scratches on the surface of the pull rod. If it is severe, it is necessary to mill out the scratches and then knock them in again.
